Geothermal Energy
About Geothermal Systems
Geothermal systems take advantage of the temperature of the ground beneath the Earth's surface to heat and cool a home or building. Since the ground remains a fairly stable temperature year round, it can be used to draw heat during winter and to exchange heat for cold during summer.
Using Your Bore for Geothermal
In open-loop vertical geothermal energy systems, the heat is brought into the building by pumping groundwater into a heat exchange pump located at the earth's surface. In summer the cycle is reversed, and heat is transferred out of the building into the pumped groundwater. After leaving the heat exchange pump, the groundwater can be used for regular domestic, stock or irrigation requirements or returned to the ground through a second, reinjection bore.
Domestic & Commercial
In domestic installations, groundwater can be used for other purposes after geothermal energy exchange or reinjected into aquifer after geothermal energy exchange.
